Terrarium
A living world across your keys.
In build. Write to us if you want a note when it lands.
Your Stream Deck becomes one patch of ground, watched for 4.5 billion years compressed into a working day. It never pans away from that spot, and your machine is the weather.
Watch it
This is the plugin's own simulation running in your browser, sliced across a deck exactly the way it is sliced across real keys — the whole arc in about forty-five seconds.
Press a key to disturb the world.
Three registers
The deck reads as three horizontal bands. This is why the grid is used rather than fought.
Sky
top rowSun, moon and stars, cloud, aurora, bombardment, flying life, and eventually contrails.
Surface
middle rowThe shoreline, the terrain, whatever is alive right now, and the weather passing over it.
Section
bottom rowThe geological column, growing a new band every epoch, with fossils, roots, lava veins and eventually buried cable.
Your machine is the weather
Nothing in it is decoration. Every force in the world is a reading off your computer.
- CPU load
- Heat in the mantle — lava, drought, plumes. It erupts above 85%.
- Memory
- Biomass. Forest density, herd size, and later the number of city blocks.
- Audio
- Wind and swell. Transients throw lightning.
- Local sunrise
- The world's sunrise, and therefore the entire glow layer.
When a signal is unavailable the force it drives goes calm — never zero, never broken. A world with no wind still looks like a world.
Deep time, on your hours
The arc runs on time the plugin is actually running, not the wall clock, so the Cretaceous waits while your laptop is shut. Nobody else's deck is at the same minute of the same epoch, and by hour fourteen the bottom row is a readable history of your own session.
It ends somewhere
The final epoch reads how you have been working. Sustained load and little idle gives you one ending; long quiet stretches give you another; a mix gives you a third. You are not told which one is coming.
Requirements
- Stream Deck app
- 7.1 or newer
- Devices
- Any Stream Deck with keys. The world is sized to the grid you fill.
- Platforms
- macOS 12+ and Windows 10+
- Keys needed
- The whole deck, or at least a page of it
What it doesn't do
No account, no sign-in, no network calls, no analytics. It reads your own machine's load and nothing else, and the world lives in Stream Deck's settings on that machine.
